Sexual Assault
Sexual Assault is forced-unwanted sexual intercourse. Sexual Assault is sometimes also called rape, which can happen to both men and women of any age.
Sexual Assault is not always about power and control it can actually be about the actually crime which is sex. Many people think sexual assault is just about sex- but it's not.
Who is at risk of being assaulted?
You are! Sexual Assault can happen to anyone- regardless of gender, race, economic status, or religion.
You are most likely to be sexually assaulted by someone you know such as a friend, date, neighbor, relative, classmate, colleague rather than a stranger.
In some situations, some people do get sexually assaulted by a stranger when they start to get a little to comfortable at parties, clubs, and public areas.
Reducing Your Risk
- avoid dangerous situations( don't get yourself in the situation);
- plan your safety;
- in social situations don't provide too much information about you and your personal life ( job, hometown, etc.)
- have a secure computer;
- always keep your lights on at night so you can see; and
- don't walk near dark areas or walls.
Why are we victims?
- we leave our windows, and doors unlocked;
- we tell too much of our information to people we don't know or the one's we do know;
- we don't have security systems or have security systems that actually work;
- we wait to report crime activity in our communities; and
- we don't think about our safety as much as we should.
Every one is at risk, no matter if you boy, man, girl, or women.
